About Caldecote Community Primary School
It was built to serve the growing new community of Braunstone, which was originally built to house people from the deteriorating living conditions of the city centre dwellings.
Braunstone was a farming community with land mostly owned by the wealthy Winstanley family. This was sold to the Local Authority and in its place a new, tree lined, leafy suburb with great local amenities emerged.
Over the decades there have been thousands of pupils, hundreds of teachers and many head teachers that have graced Caldecote’s long corridors but one of the school’s most famous pupils to date is the sports personality; Gary Lineker, who was a pupil during the 1960s and early 1970s.
Although the school has always been on the same site, it wasn’t until 2002 that the infant building was merged with the junior building by the construction of a new corridor linking the two original buildings together.
This newly formed primary school now accommodates over six hundred pupils from three to eleven years of age. At the end of Year Six, many children move on to our local secondary schools.
